The Priority Families programme arranges free training for workers and managers.

Priority Families 2 day Training, Safeguarding and Signs of Safety Training

Since September 2014 the Priority Families Programme Team has been running a two-day Induction Training Course to prepare Family Partnership Workers (Priority Family Leads) across the Children's Partnership to work their PF cases.

The course will comprise of the following two modules:-

Module One (Day 1):

The focus of this day will be to provide an overview of the priority family programme and will include a 3 hour workshop delivered by staff from the Department for work and Pensions. This is a generic day and will be attended by a mixture of staff from across the partnership with the aim of promoting cross partnership working.

Module Two (Day 2)

Given the differing working arrangements of agencies across the city, this day will be a bespoke training package aimed at one of the following cohorts:-

1) Extensive Support - i.e. Family Support Worker Level 3 (TFST), FIP Practitioners, Edge of Care Workers, YOT Case Managers, Social Workers, Health Visitors etc.

2) Additional Support (Schools) - i.e. all School Staff including School Nurses

3) Additional Support (Early Help) - i.e. Children's Centre Workers, Targeted Youth Support (TYS) Workers, Targeted Support Team (TST) Workers, Education Welfare Officers, Housing Officers, Police Staff, Community Nursery Nurses, Voluntary Sector etc.

This is not an exhaustive list - delegates with professions not listed need to select the most appropriate group that matches their role.

The aim of this module will be to focus on the operational implementation of priority families according to the respective group (i.e. some teams do not hold multi-agency meetings, whilst others do not undertake home visits).

Please make sure you have completed the Safeguarding course within the last three years otherwise you will need an update or to complete it before booking. We do provide our own Safeguarding and Signs of Safety Training. Please see below for information and dates.

Understand the nature of child abuse

Recognise the indicators that a child is suffering from harm

Consider how diversity issues should be considered in an assessment of a child’s needs

Understand the role of the Assessment Framework in safeguarding children

Understand the appropriate action to take in order to safeguard a child from harm

Explain and understand the Signs of Safety approach

Understand how to use related tools

Understand how to use these approaches to involve parents, children & young people, their wider networks, in assessing risk, safety and planning

Understand the benefits of using SOS in multi-agency forums

Increase confidence and effectiveness when using the SOS approach in differing arenas
