Understanding and Supporting Child Development

Aim

  • To enable participants to enhance their practice in supporting children, young people and their families.

Learning Outcomes

  • To gain an overview of the main psychological theories underpinning Child Development & have a broad understanding of key developmental milestones
  • To further develop participants' understanding of children & young people's behaviour and emotional development.
  • To gain an understanding of how planned & unplanned transitions can impact on development with particular focus on loss & bereavement and transitions in education.
  • To explore a range of strategies & skills required for children & young people to deal effectively with different forms of transition.
  • To gain an understanding of some theories underpinning children and young people's play.
  • To explore the impact of adults' agendas & interventions when working with a child or young person engaged in play.

Audience: Suitable for workers from Schools and external agencies to attend as well as Nottingham City Council.

Cost: £100 for the one day(reduced rate for Voluntary and Community Organisations).  A bespoke session could be developed for your organisation for up to 16 people starting from £650 per day.

Mental Health First Aid Youth 2 Day 
WHAT IS MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID?

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is an internationally recognised training course, designed to teach people how to spot the signs and symptoms of mental ill health and provide help on a first aid basis.  This course is tailored for people who teach, work, live with and care for young people aged 8 to 18.

Each and every Youth MHFA course is delivered by a quality assured instructor, who has attended the seven day instructor training programme accredited by the Royal Society for Public Health.

WHAT WILL I LEARN ON A YOUTH MHFA COURSE?

A more in depth understanding of specific mental health issues and is delivered in four manageable chunks:

  • What is mental health?

  • Depression and anxiety

  • Suicide and psychosis

  • Self-harm and eating disorders

Within each section there is clear focus on the issues faced by young people today, including bullying/cyber bullying and substance misuse. The course also teaches the importance of promoting protective factors and good parenting. Completing the two day course qualifies you as a Youth Mental Health First Aider.

Audience: Anyone working with children aged 8 and above.
